Hughenden Manor

No one can resist stopping for natural play here on the way to Disraeli's mansion - a vertical rope tower, carved viewing holes, stepping log structure and more.
This imaginative play area seamlessly blended natural tree trunks with the beautiful Chiltern woodland, orchard and garden at Hughenden. Carved log steps, clamber logs, rope bridges, and a scramble net—each inviting children to explore. At the heart of it all stands a vertical rope tower, crowned with a nest-like roof. Carved viewing holes allow curious eyes to peer out. And for our littlest adventurers, a stepping log structure eases them into the wider world of tree trunk play.
Surrounding the play area, native hedgerow trees forms a living fence, harmonizing with the landscape. Visitors enter through a welcoming log wall, and a rustic gate beckoned at the edge. As grown-ups relax on natural log seating, they watch their children play in nature.

We wanted a play area that would engage children and introduce them to the historical significance of our location. The design not only provides a fun and imaginative space for our little visitors but also serves as a subtle educational tool, interpreting the archaeology of the site in a way that is both engaging and meaningful.
