Beggarwood Park

The Wild Area is the natural play part of Beggarwood Park Local Nature reserve
This special park is a wonderful natural amenity resource for the community. Like many parks, it had manufactured play equipment but very little natural space for play. Our untreated spectacuar pieces of oak are vital habitat here for the life in the nature reserve - including children! We created a spectacular wild entrance archway that acts like a portal the wild. There are two natural climbing structures, den building areas, log seating, oak trees and the border of the play area is planted with wildflower turf. As the timber slowly decays, it will release its carbon back to the soil. There's no landfill, metal, plastic, rubber or chemicals involved here, just nature doing its thing at the childrens fingertips.
Our work was cut out with this project as we had to prepare the site by removing tonnes of concrete and hundreds of treated timber posts from the previous maze structure. We got there in the end.

We wanted a play area that would engage children and introduce them to the historical significance of our location. The design not only provides a fun and imaginative space for our little visitors but also serves as a subtle educational tool, interpreting the archaeology of the site in a way that is both engaging and meaningful.
