The old play space at Kingswood Nursery was a conventional treated timber set of towers with very limited appeal and full of prescriptive limited play opportunities. The staff wanted a more natural play feature for the children so we came up with a Wildwood plan.
We created a Wildwood Den and trail using spectacular pieces of oak and at 3 points in the structure, we added some rope play elements including a rope bridge and two rope swings. The new play area not only provides a space for nature but the children can now experience natural tree climbing from a very young age.
When we finished the installation, some the children were hiding in the den. When I asked them what they were playing, they answered “we’re part of the tree”.
